Description: |
Longest is carved of dark colored horn, has fine teeth on one half, wide-spaced teeth on the other, (2 missing). Decorated with incised circular and wave pattern. Indonesian? Next a cattle horn comb with curved handle, terminating in a point or pick end. Probably European. Next a copper/brass double sided comb with openwork body with X designs. With a triangular cattle horn comb, teeth on 3 faces, probably a lice comb. Two similar hardwood carved combs, hand made but unidentifiable. Next an Amazonian bamboo comb with textile and wrapped cotton thread handle. Missing one bees waxed terminal. Also a tourist, wood comb wood burned “Oaxaca” (Mexico) on handle. Finally two late African wood combs, one with an elephand head handle, the other with a lioness. |
