Description: |
Large carved gray stone baton or ceremonial septer, having a long tapered blade with a rounded tip. Elaborately carved finial depicting four stylized intertwined serpents, having finely incised linear details and drilled circular elements. Scattered areas of surface encrustation. One serpent in the upper portion of the finial reattached, two minor restored chips on the finial, and lower 2-1/2” of blade restored. A rare example. Cf. Ancient Americas, Richard F.
