| Description: |
Carved gray-cream color stone mixing or grinding palette depicting a flying shaman with his rear legs pulled inwards, one arm held to his side and the other hand held to his bulbous cheek. His head is held in a downward position, as if flying. Relief carved, very expressive facial features, eyes capped with small black anthracite discs. Large hollowed out bowl in his body containing ancient calcified red and ocher pigment. The back side also has a carved recess which is set with a finely polished gray-green stone plaque, having a mirror type finish. Possibly used as a fine grinding surface or mirror. Excellent ancient surface patina with normal surface weathering, otherwise intact. Custom base. A rare example. |
