Description: |
Exceptional carved creamy light bluish-green compacted limestone large mask. Elegantly carved idealized facial features, having a broad nose, recessed eyes which once held insets, arched eye lids and browline, wide mouth with thick parted lips, as if suggesting speech. Four biconical drilled attachment holes along the outer edges and drilled pierced ears and nostrils. Overall strong scattered mineral deposits and root marks. Minor chip on the left ear tip with a tiny tight hairline on the upper left corner tip, otherwise intact, exc. cond. A truly remarkable example. Custom bronze base.
Expertise: Pre-Columbian Art Research Associates and John Stokes. |
Provenance: |
From the Collection of Michael Fuchs, NY. Collected in the 1980’s - 1990’s.
