Description: |
Fine carved blue-green serpentine head originally from a figure, wearing a cleft headdress, and having beautifully carved facial features depicting a shaman in transformation, with a large bow shape upper lip. This were-jaguar deity, wears the bossed headband with crenelated side flaps of the Olmec Rain God. Tiny biconical drilled suspension hole in the left side flap, possibly for the attachment of a small ornament. Overall excellent ancient surface patina with strong surface deposits. Head is intact, exc. cond. Custom lucite base. An exceptional example. |

From the collection of Brian Mahony, NYC. and Redding, CT. Active 1980 - 1990’s. Acquired from Fine Arts of Ancient Lands, NYC., 1986. |
