Description: |
Carved dark gray stone baton or ceremonial septer, having a long tapered blade and rounded tip. finial carved with two opposing serpent heads, having finely incised linear details and decoration. Scattered surface encrustation. Tip of blade restored and a restored chip on serpents snout. A rare example. Cf. Ancient Americas, Richard F. Townsend, The Art Institute of Chicago, p. 248, fig.6., 1992. |
