Description: Ring-shaped vessel, modeled on each side with a projecting avian figure, surmounted by a large strap handle and projecting spouts. This type of vessel with two spouts and a bridge handle is known as an alcarraza. It developed in the early Ilama phase and became the hallmark vessel of Calima in the subsequent Yotoco phase. The alcarraza was a kind of standard vehicle for modeling diverse human and animal forms from daily life, as well as house models. Nonetheless, alcarrazas are elaborate vessels, in decoration and technique, and may have been made exclusively for burial, as they show little sign of wear. Birds are a typical motif. Both spouts and handle are restored, repaired from several pieces with restoration over the break lines and surrounding areas.
