Period: Radio-carbon dated to 80-416 A.D., with 95 percent confidence.
Size: 28-3/4”L. x 16”W.

Description: Camelid wool woven rectangular apron panel, colored with natural dyes, having an overall zigzag design with upper and lower wide multicolor banded border. The design is perhaps representative of the zigzag canal watering system used in the Andes from ancient times up to the present day. Multicolor long string ties at both ends. Some minor scattered imperfections, otherwise overall exc. cond. Sewn to a burlap backing on a wooden stretcher. A very nice example.
Provenance: NYS. collection. Acquired 1996 from Steve Berger, Arte Textil, San Francisco. With invoice and C-14 certificate copies. Published in Hali Magazine, Issue 96, January 1998, “Andean Eccentricity.”
